A Tale of Two Fishy Fellas
It was a blustery gray spring evening when Mike and Spencer first met in the East Beach parking lot of Crissy Field. As fly anglers do, they talked about their quarry and the conditions like bygone mystics or that crunchy wiccan hippie you know. They spoke of moons and solunar periods, of prevailing winds and the composition of the sand, of “pulses” and troughs, all in the name of identifying that esoteric quality of “fishy.” The connection was immediate.
So they continued to fish together. And it was good. They fished the Bay Area. Hard. It was the first time either had encountered someone else who fished like they did—all the time, and for as long as possible. They fished even when they shouldn’t have. When the wind was blowing 20 knots, they fished. When the swell was 8-10 feet, they fished. When the water was an angry dark brown and weed-infested, they fished. When their shoulders and elbows ached and doctors threatened Tommy John and arthroscopic surgeries, they fished. When wives and girlfriends rolled their eyes (so aggressively) and said, “again?”, yes, reader…they fished.
What are two salty, fish-obsessed lads supposed to do? A guide service was the natural and inevitable outcome. Strip Set was born in yet another beachside parking lot, and now they share their passion for these waters and these fish with others. They might not ALWAYS catch fish, but they ALWAYS have a good time.
